gNewSense is a free operating system and is a GNU/Linux distribution. As you might have noticed, the iGetcha team supports free software for nonprofits and NGOs, and as an example of GNU, gNewSense takes the word "free" to the level of idealism we seek as a community.
To tell you the truth, the iGetcha team has only used Ubuntu for a short time and we have one machine dual booting with Windows XP and 9.10 (Karmic Koala), and another really old machine on Intrepid Ibex. This OS rocks and we want nonprofits to realize how many old computers they can bring to life for the less fortunate by using Ubuntu.
Google Chrome OS is currently in the developer phase so you definitely need to have tech experience to install it on your PC. We suggest Cherry (the diet Chrome OS) instead of the original build if your nonprofit wants to try it out!
iGetcha actually prefers Xubuntu over Puppy Linux just because Xubuntu comes installed with more common applications such as Open Office and Thunderbird, but if you want something really light weight, you should consider Puppy Linux. One thing that is cool about Puppy Linux is that it is a very small iso file.
Actually, iGetcha is surprised how little NGO-in-a-Box is utilized. Ideally, nonprofits could spread the files that NGO-in-a-Box has provided and help those small initiatives such as a shelter with obsolete software or no software on PCs. As a nonprofit, if you as a nonprofit want to distribute DVDs/CDs with free and open source software, NGO-in-a-Box provides iso files for you to put on DVDs/CDs.
Use these tools as a core and you can build around NGO-in-a-Box with iGetcha's suggestions :)
Moblin just may be the dark horse in open source operating systems, but iGetcha was not impressed unfortunately. Even the Ubuntu Moblin Remix did not impress us much. Something about the system (ie window control) does not seem as usable as Sugar on a Stick for example.
