Google Chrome OS is currently in the developer phase so you definitely need to have tech experience to install it on your PC. We suggest Cherry (the diet Chrome OS) instead of the original build if your nonprofit wants to try it out!

Coming preinstalled on rumored brands in late 2010, iGetcha hopes this will revolutionize the free software and open source movement :) As a strong brand, Google will initially run on Netbooks. But we're disappointed because there is no desktop software. What that means is that it is a (Chrome) browser-type computer and nothing else really.

Chrome OS is basically a "lightweight" operating system that will get you on the Internet as fast as possible. Booting in less than "7 seconds." Apparently, it has been designed to minimize processor use on your PC. Also there are rumors that the system will be virus free (which Linux based systems are mostly). Since some nonprofits are not exceptionally techie, we think these qualities are big pluses for nonprofits... as long as you have reliable Internet connection.

Until late 2010, you'll need to try out the open source project of Chrome OS. Interestingly enough, the OS works best, at the moment, off of Ubuntu. And iGetcha recommends Ubuntu more than Chrome OS since Ubuntu allows desktop software... We've tested Cherry in a Virtual Box and we're really disappointed. We recommend Sugar on a stick if you want something light weight.

Still with the global branding behind Google, look for this OS to propel the free and open source software movement to the level it needs to be at hopefully. iGetcha hopes that nonprofits and even small businesses will see the quality and value of using Chrome OS, Ubuntu, Open Office, Thunderbird, Skype and all the other applications that are there for you to use... Remember, it's all going to be free for you to use :)
