Use OpenOffice.orgiGetcha thinks the power of Open Office is not being realized. It's free for one. But also for example, you can save and edit a PDF and do much more by downloading extensions! Yes, that eliminates the need to buy Adobe's pdf editor and MS Office! We're not knocking Adobe and Microsoft. iGetcha knows these companies make decent software. We're just simply saying that you, as a nonprofit, have an alternative option and a good one at that! The only catch now is, it's an Oracle owned software so not sure if it's truly open source now...

If you really miss your Outlook and calendar, you can download Thunderbird and Lightning. We're not sure why Open Office did not bundle these two applications into Open Office, but nonetheless, this adds all the office tools you need completely for free!

An interesting future is, what will Google Chrome OS have on its netbooks in terms of an offline office suite? Well, even if there's none and they promote Google docs for example, you can download Open Office as a local storing application. iGetcha believes that open source and free software is the answer to technological sustainability in nonprofits and even businesses. One day even a netbook will be free for nonprofits hopefully, and everything else will be value added services :)
