OpenMRS is another free and open source system to manage medical records. The iGetcha team installed this system on a local linux machine and at first glance, the interface is much more user-friendly than OpenEMR. The only catch is, OpenMRS was difficult to install. As we have mentioned in several writings, we are an above average team in terms of technical capacity and we are not coders. Our ultimate goal is to find the free software that is easily launched on nonprofit systems globally and in the case of OpenMRS, once you launch, it may be great! But, getting there may take some effort.

For one, OpenMRS incorporates Tomcat. And when you start adding Apache stuff and other open source packages, you're getting to the level of an IT specialist. We're not saying you cannot implement OpenMRS as a less technical nonprofit. We are just saying that it is not just double-click an icon and away you go.

So. If you're less confident about your IT skills and require an IT volunteer to get your PC working, we suggest trying OpenEMR first and if you want something more, try OpenMRS if you're ready to test your IT skills ;)
