I appreciate the transparency of igetcha and I am hoping it survives. Recently, I read that B Corps have a forprofit model with a social mission. Does anyone have any opinions about this subject? I believe in igetcha's mission more because I support free software and technology for nonprofits and I am wondering how a B Corp justifies profitability.

I realize that this website is more about free stuff for nonprofits but I think this is an important topic, similar to how there was a discussion about localization, creative commons, etc.

Any thoughts?

First of all, the iGetcha team would like to thank the community for posting their support, questions and comments. Because of all the dialogue around areas such as Creative Commons, B Corps, mobile solutions, et cetera, we will be creating more categories to help organize thoughts around starting a nonprofit. After some discussion, the iGetcha team sees the overlap between technology and the sustainability of a nonprofit, and we will try our best to moderate accordingly while sticking to our mission of finding and evaluating the free and open source software and hardware solutions for nonprofits.

With all of this in mind, the iGetcha team will continue to illustrate transparency about our organization so that other nonprofits can see our development as a small organization. We want to show our challenges as an organization and truly, our goal is to pass along our knowledge to other initiatives.

In regards to B Corps, the concept is fairly new. In fact, there's no Wikipedia listing for B Corps. Our peers have discussed this subject as well and right now, the idea is quite vague. We understand the need for sustainability such as charging for a product and/or service, but right now, we don't completely understand the legal status of a B Corp. If you are planning to start a B Corp, we suggest contacting a lawyer. Registration may be quite different than a 501c3 and we are not sure about the legal and tax implications.

Thanks!

The iGetcha Team :)
