iGetcha.org is a suggested opensource and free software directory for the technological sustainability of nonprofits. It's also a simple, non-techie shortlist to assist organizations with a SOHO.
Hey guys,
I don't have a solution to this question :p so I should post this in recent questions. If you have any suggestions on how to convince a Windows Vista user to switch to open source, I'd be grateful! :D
My support for the community would be for anyone interested in Drupal or Ubuntu assistance. I do have a job but I'm willing to volunteer some time since my org allows me to help the nonprofit community once in a while.

Switching to Open Source

Hi Steve,
We know how it is when trying to convince loved ones to change web browsers, operating systems, email providers, et cetera :) At iGetcha, we are more focused on getting the nonprofit world to utilize free and open source solutions because of long-term sustainability. And, we try not to push others, outside the nonprofit and ngo world, towards free and open source solutions simply because we understand the switching costs involved. For instance, some users have their favorite brand, application preferences, release version attachments, et cetera.
One thought for the future is, technology always approaches zero cost as the world advances and right now, free and open source is already at that zero cost besides downloading the software. Eventually, proprietary software will have to offer their software at zero cost with value added services. Since free and open source software already offer the nonprofit community no cost solutions, the service level is already improving and in the long-term, iGetcha predicts a complete shift. Again, we do not dislike proprietary software. All we favor is what is best for the nonprofit community and sustainability of their programs.
Regards,
The iGetcha Team :)

I replaced my (now) wife's Vista computer with Ubuntu since she has a netbook. Now, she prefers to use Ubuntu! :D
